Brainwavz has slowly but surely been developing a name for itself, and each time we review a new pair of Brainwavz headphones we find that they’re getting better and better. Not too long ago we reviewed the Brainwavz B100 headphones, which come at a price of $60. Now, however, Brainwavz has a new offering — the Brainwavz B200, which comes in at $179.50.
But which is better for the price. And should you spend the extra cash for the B200 over the B100? We put the two headphones to the test to find out. Before we go on, it might be useful to read our reviews of the two headphones, which you can find here:
Design
You won’t be choosing one of these over the other simply because of their design. Why? Because they’re pretty much identical. Both of the two headphones feature a sleek, black look with an over-the-ear cable setup. They even both have the textured plastic cable protection, which looks quite nice and helps keep the headphones tangle-free.
In the box, both headphones have a nice slew of accessories. In both you’ll get six pairs of gel ear tips and a pair of Comply memory foam tips, and a nice clamshell case, which is both very functional and very protective.
In general, the headphones look great, though the fact that they’re exactly the same in the design department doesn’t help in deciding which one to get.
Comfort
They’re also identical when it comes to comfort. Both the B100 and the B200 headphones feature a nice slew of ear tips, ensuring that they remain well and truly inside your ear canal. On top of that, the over-ear design helps the headphones stay well-placed.
The two headphones may be identical, but in this case that’s a good thing. The two headphones are well above-par in comfort, and while you may want to take a break from listening every now and then, the fact is that these headphones both remain comfortable for much longer than most other pairs of in-ear headphones.
Sound
There has to beĀ something that differentiates the Brainwavz B100 and B200 headphones, right? If it’s not design or comfort, then it must be sound. True to form, listen to these headphones side by side and you’ll notice a few differences — but surprisingly not many.
The Brainwavz B100 headphones are extremely well rounded, but there are a few things that make the B200’s better. For one, the B200’s seem to haveĀ more, and better tuned, bass response. By comparison, the B100’s are a little lacking the bass department.
The midrange is quite differently handled between the two headphones. The B200’s have quite a bump in the upper mids, which we actually didn’t like all that much. On the contrary, the B100’s have a dip in that region, causing the vocals, synths, and guitars to lose some presence.
The high-end is tough to judge, and that’s largely because of how the high-mids are presented, masking the high frequencies just a little. Both headphones offer a good amount of high-end, although the Brainwavz B200’s high-end seems slightly less pronounced than that on the B100.
Conclusions
The Brainwavz B200 headphones have a better sound than the B100’s, but not enough to justify the price. While we like the B200’s, if you’re trying to decide between the two and unsure if you should spend the extra cash, we would recommend against it.
Still, both of the headphones are good, to be sure. Whichever pair you decide on, you can get them for yourself below.
